Chapter Elections for the June 2025 through May 2027 term will occur early next year. The calendar of events for chapter elections is:

• Mail Chapter & Affiliate Convention Nomination Forms – January 16-17, 2025
• Self-Nomination Link Live in Members Only by 9:00 am – January 16, 2025
• Chapter & Affiliate Convention Nominations Close – February 14, 2025
• Chapter Nomination Lists Posted to Web through – February 28, 2025
• Mail Chapter Elections Ballots to Address on File – March 12-14, 2025
• Chapter & Affiliate Elections Ballots due – April 18, 2025
• Count Chapter & Affiliate Elections Ballots – April 22-25, 2025**

All Chapter Officer and Delegate Positions will be open for Election in 2025.

If you are an Officer or Delegate now, you must run again to remain in your current position.

UUP Upstate Chapter Officer positions to be elected for the 2-year term beginning on June 1, 2025 include:

• Chapter President – voted for by all chapter members
• Chapter Vice President for Academics – voted for by academic chapter members only
• Chapter Vice President for Professionals – voted for by professional chapter members only
• Chapter Officer for Contingent Employees – voted for by all chapter members
• Chapter Retiree Officer – voted for by all chapter members
• Chapter Secretary – voted for by all chapter members
• Chapter Treasurer  – voted for by all chapter members
• Chapter Academic Delegate – voted for by academic chapter members only, approximately 14 open positions
• Chapter Professional Delegate – voted for by professional chapter members only, approximately 50 open positions

Any UUP member running for an Officer position should also run for a Delegate position of their respective employee category (academic or professional).

All UUP elected delegates receiving 10 or more votes from chapter members become a voting member of the UUP Upstate Medical Chapter Executive Board. For every 75 UUP members of each employee category, the chapter is allotted one delegate position.

The UUP Upstate Medical Chapter will host its Annual Budget Meeting on February 12, 2025 in Room 4414A of the New Academic Building from 12 -1 PM. This will be a General Membership Meeting, and it is a UUP constitutional requirement that the annual Chapter Budget be approved by the Chapter Executive Board, which will occur during the February 5^th Chapter Officer’s meeting (mark your calendars Officers and Delegates!), and then by the Chapter General Membership.

All Upstate Medical Chapter UUP Members are invited to attend the February 12 Chapter Budget Meeting to discuss the proposed 2025-2026 chapter budget and vote on their recommendation of how the membership dues funds allocated to your UUP Chapter will be utilized throughout the year for chapter operations and membership support. This is your chance to learn how funds are allocated to your chapter and how they are allocated to cover the cost of chapter membership activities including meetings, workshops, and other events like the annual Downtown and Community Campus Picnics and September Clambake. Food will be provided for those attending in person.

Registration is now open and will close on February 5, 2025. This will be a hybrid meeting and seating is limited to 75 people and 100 participants via Zoom. We hope to see you there.

Need Help Managing Your Student Loan Debt?  

Over 12 million people in the United States are struggling to make their monthly student loan payments, and millions more see economic and personal opportunities pass as they prioritize paying down their debt. Does this sound like you or someone you know?  

Many of these people may qualify for free federal programs that can help reduce their monthly payments and eventually lead to student loan forgiveness, but these lifeline programs are significantly under-enrolled. In an effort to help our members get access to these programs, United University Professions and the American Federation of Teachers are proud to host a Student Debt Clinic which will provide information on how to enroll in Income-Driven Repayment plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness.   

 We will be offering virtual Members Only Student Debt Clinics on the following dates:    

• Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM via Zoom.
• Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 12:00 AM – 1:00 PM via Zoom.
• Wednesday, February 25, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM via Zoom.

From the “student debt clinic” drop-down menu, please select the UUP clinic that you are interested in attending – they are labeled “UUP [Virtual Student Debt Clinic] [date] [time].” In the affiliate field, type in the full name of our local (United University Professions), and it will autofill after a few keystrokes.

Registration is first come, first serve, and we must cap attendance for a single clinic at 75 participants in order to ensure that we are able to provide maximum assistance to attendees. Registration will close 48 hours prior to the virtual clinic. Webinar login information will be provided prior to the clinic to all who register. [If you can’t make one of these virtual clinics, don’t worry – we’re planning on offering them every payday. If you want to help host a chapter-specific virtual clinic, please let us know!]
